I returned to an old haunt today - the country house which I used as the model for my story North Country. I was just pondering how different the atmosphere was from when I visited before and how that could have affected the outcome of the story. I knew what I was looking for when I went the first time, but came away with entirely new ideas. The whole place gave me lots to work with. My visit today didn't have that kind of appeal, sadly.

It set me thinking more on what can be inspirational. In the case of fan fic there's obviously the original canon material - but stories and characters and writers are so diverse that I suppose all sorts of things can lead to fic. What do people find that triggers a story? And how much work is involved after the initial thoughts? Anyway, here endeth the ramble...

Percy and Marguerite head north to his country estates for a second honeymoon. Set after The Scarlet Pimpernel, and my story After Calais.
North Country is around 15,000 words and written in 12 chapters - Journey's end, Duty bound, Echoes, Moonlight, Awakenings, Rooftop rendezvous, A mysterious box, Misunderstanding, The search, Secrets, Family ties, A member of the League.
